"I chose to work at Walsh because of the reputable safety & family culture and the opportunity to move up and progress within the company. I think it’s great that we stay on top of all the safety trends, and we always have the latest and greatest safety equipment and PPE for our workers. It is also nice knowing that we are a huge company, but we have a small family feel."

I am a Project Superintendent for Archer Western located in Phoenix, AZ in our Water Division. I have been with the company for 8 years and have worked all over the state of Arizona on water and waste water treatment projects. I enjoy working on pipe fitting, mechanical work, and the entire process of making dirty water clean for public use. My grandfather and father were both carpenters, and I am the third generation that works in the construction industry.

I am a father of two boys Andres Islas and RE Islas. Our main hobby, aside from work and school, is golfing. My boys have golfed competitively for about 3 years and that is pretty much all we do in our free time. Some other hobbies that we enjoy are playing with our dog Bailey, hiking, bike rides, fishing or just hanging out with family and friends.

"Starting with Walsh as a Project Engineer, I was able to develop a strong knowledge base, but after two years, I knew I wanted a more hands on role. Within Walsh, they were able to give me the opportunities and resources that I needed to transition into an Assistant Superintendent."

Coming out of college with a Civil Engineering Degree, I knew I needed to stay active and my love of construction was in the field. Starting with Walsh as a Project Engineer, I was able to develop a strong knowledge base, but after two years, I knew I wanted a more hands on role. Within Walsh, they were able to give me the opportunities and resources that I needed to transition into an Assistant Superintendent.

Through classes, trainings, and site visits I was surrounded by Superintendents from around the Country where I was able to gain experience and built a network of resources who ultimately pushed me to become a Superintendent running multiple bridge crews. Walsh has supported and pushed me to become the leader that I am today, and given me the opportunities to travel, meet and learn about the many different elements the construction industry has to offer.

I chose to work at Walsh because I wanted to be a part of what I truly feel are the best people in the industry building a great team with a family culture.

I was born and raised in a small town in North Jersey in the shadows of New York City. Growing up, I loved building all kinds of things with Legos, which sparked my interest in construction initially. A few years later, I attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken and received both a Bachelors and Masters in Civil Engineering. While in school, I worked several internships as a part of a Co-op program, gaining both great experience on some high-profile projects and also professional relationships I would maintain and later rely on.

After graduating I worked for a few large contractors on projects in and around New York City as a Project Engineer. I was always drawn towards the action and excitement of being out in the field and gravitated towards more field-oriented assignments. I then landed a role as Superintendent a few years later.

I am coming up on my third year as a part of the Walsh team and could not be happier and more fulfilled. I am given ample opportunity and support in my role as Project Superintendent. What I have come to appreciate the most about working for Walsh is that this is a place that actually listens to what you want to do, and where you want to take your career. They support you every step of the way. This is a people industry, and I really believe that the best people are here at Walsh.
