Overview

Archer Western a member of The Walsh Group is currently seeking a Maintenance Zone Superintendent for the Walsh Infrastructure Management Group, for a Maintenance DOT project located in Tampa, FL .

In conjunction with Project Management, the Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for the direct supervision of in-house and subcontractor forces, and the efficient scheduling of the physical completion of all project work.

Assist with evaluation and work assignment based on condition assessment MRP and keys element inspections. Guide, supervise, schedule and coordinate subcontracted work. Ensures work meets contract specifications and inputs data into computerized maintenance management system. Ensure satisfaction of key stakeholders pursuant to contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates subcontracts, drawings, and specifications to ensure conformity. Examines drawings and specifications for various work tasks and ensures current information is passed down to front line supervision and trades personnel. Carries out inspections as needed.

  • Responsible for daily planning, creation and maintenance of project schedules, including subcontractor specialty schedules and short interval schedules. Involved in creating work plans for each specific work activity.

  • Supervises and organizes workers; ensures workers are available and fully qualified to perform assigned duties. Reports on labor and materials. Schedules crews according to available work packages for the project and all required equipment and materials necessary to complete tasks. Monitors timely delivery of necessary materials to assure continued productivity.

  • Responsible for controlling costs, adhering to budgets and managing equipment-related expenses. Ensures staff is aware of production rates for assigned items of work.

  • Conducts regular safety meetings; maintains a safe work environment with the goal of keeping accidents and injuries to a minimum and complying with company and regulatory safety procedures. Complies with EPA requirements for hazardous materials.

  • Coordinates subcontractors through a regular and disciplined series of meetings, questioning and verifying their plans and efforts, changing or augmenting as needed.

  • Assists project management team ensuring compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the city, state and federal government applicable to the project. Alerts management to any potential concerns.

  • Coordinates with internal staff to build professional and productive relationships with owners, architects, engineers and unions if applicable.

  • Assists with Customer Service Operations (CSO) work request; communicate, plan, direct and ensure on time completion of requested work. Provide QA, input data, and ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Participate in rotating “Hot Phone” on-call rotation.

  • Reviews MRP and inspection results and provides recommendations to Project Engineer.

  • Conduct routine condition assessments such as pavements, signs, guardrails, turf conditions, vegetation, lighting and other contract requirements. Provide analysis of work needs based on condition assessments and contract performance requirements.

  • Responds to incident emergencies and coordinates work of on-site responders.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of highway maintenance materials, methods and procedures experience preferred.

  • Experience in contract and subcontractor management preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (Required).

  • DOT certifications in concrete, asphalt, soils and compaction, inspections, Herbicide License, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) (Highly Desirable)

  • Word and Excel skills - The ability to create bar chart schedules in Excel.

  • CMiC experience desired

  • Strong communication skills, leadership skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and ability to prioritize, organize, manage time, and handle multiple tasks. Basic surveying skills including GPS controlled equipment. Strong knowledge of heavy equipment.

  • Some travel required and may be required to relocate.

  • Ability to transport under 50 pounds.
